Episode 8: Matthew d'Ancona - Post-Truth
The concept has been around longer than the newly coined word, post-truth. But what is it exactly? Post-truth is the idea that objective facts are less influential in swaying public opinion than appeals to emotion.
It’s not a lie per se. A lie contradicts the truth, but still has a relation to it. With post-truth, the truth is treated as irrelevant. If the facts don’t fit, who cares! Pick some new ones.
Matthew d’Ancona’s book is an examination of how, in recent years, post truth has exploded. Online and in the news, it seems basic agreed upon facts are becoming more elusive.
We talk about which politicians embody the ethos of post truth, why the internet is filled with dreck, and what we can do about it all.
Matthew d’Ancona is a British political journalist who writes for The Guardian. His book is “Post-Truth: The New War on Truth and How to Fight Back” #posttruthfightback
