With the political centre in retreat in both the UK and the US, the idea that prosperity rests on globalization has come under increased pressure. Whether it’s Trump’s vow to pull America out of foreign wars and trade agreements (a threat he hasn’t quite made good on), or Brexit, many people have soured on the idea that the future is a bright and shining borderless world where goods, people and capital can traverse with ease.
According to Stephen D. King, UK City analyst and senior adviser to HSBC, history has shown that when countries retreat from globalization “bad things tend to happen”.
I caught up with Stephen for a long interview where we get into globalization from an economic perspective.
